Double Duty| Dressing With Topshop

I recently bought this navy knitted tile jacquard dress from the Topshop sale, I was pretty chuffed to nab this geometric beauty, for lots of reasons I love the colour navy and the ease of flinging on a sweater dress. The centre panel breaks up the body and elongates, always good, but I was also pleased to snap up a print that cleverly covers two of this S/S13 trends.

Apart from the fact precise geometric prints are a refreshing change from florals, this two tone reverse print plays tricks with your eyes and actually looks to me anyway, see top and lower images, like a pretty faded tapestry effect (the middle image has had the colour saturation enhanced by me, it was the only way I could get the scratch pattern on my plastic aqua earrings to stand out) which gives this dress a more expensive look than the £15.00 I paid for it.

How to style a dress of two halves? Easy, wear it baroque style as a tunic in the evening, play up the romantic elegance with lashings of velvet, black velvet drain pipes, flat black velvet pumps and a clutch. I will be tempering the velvet excess with these aqua and turquoise plastic accessories that I took a shine to, they update this trend and really pop against the navy.

For day time, wear the dress with either some bikers boots or a biker jacket. I was inspired after a visit to Diamond Canopy's latest blog post on Alexandra MCQueen's S/S13 menswear accessories (a lovely twist on the baroque look) to search for a gold clutch to go with my evening look. I found this amazing gold brocade clutch by Kotur, then whilst on the hunt stumbled across this orange and pink square geometric clutch by Baxter designs which would be fun for my daytime look.

What do you think of the baroque and geometric trends?
